John R. Fogg is the current Mayor of Pensacola.

Military career

As a U. S. Marine, John flew 200 Combat Air Missions in Vietnam, was awarded 14 Combat Air Medals for service in Vietnam, was Marine Corps Representative 1973-74 Blue Angel Demonstration Pilot, “Top Gun” graduate Navy Fighter Weapons School, Commanding Officer Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA 122, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal upon retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel with 20 years service.

Political career

He began his political career in 1989 when he was elected to the City Council, representing District 3. Reelected in 1991, he resigned his district seat and was appointed to the Council's at-large "B" seat. Upon the resignation of Mayor Jerry Maygarden in 1994, Fogg was appointed Mayor by City Council, and was reappointed in 1995, 1997 and 1999. In 2001, after the mayor was switched to an at-large elected position, voters city wide elected Fogg, making him the City of Pensacola’s first elected Mayor to serve since 1913.

Community service

John serves on the boards of the Hospice Foundation of Northwest Florida, the Northwest Florida Blood Bank and the Fiesta of Five Flags. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Gulf Coast Economics Club, past commodore of the Pensacola Yacht Club, past president of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, past vice president and trustee of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, charter member of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, member of the Pensacola Museum of Art and recipient of Sons of the American Revolution Bronze Good Citizenship Medal. He served on Senator Connie Mack’s Senate Defense Advisory Committee, was honorary chairman of the 1997 USO Campaign and serves as ex-officio Member Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Personal life

John has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy State University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Butler University. He and his wife Pat have been married for 26 years and are active members of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
