Alex Zelius

Alex E. Zelius was a ship chandler and grocer, as well as (for some time) the vice consul for both Norway, the Netherlands and Russia.

Born in Christiana, Norway, he migrated to Quebec in 1869 and to Pensacola in 1885. Quickly entering the ship chandlery business, he owned two launches (the Alberta and the Florida) used for loading larger ships in the Bay.

In 1908 he stood for election as Pensacola Harbor Master but lost. He served as chairman of the City of Pensacola's Board of Public Works under Mayor Charles H. Bliss, and as a City Judge. He was a charter member of the Pensacola Yacht Club and of the Knight of Pythias Lodge.
