Bradley "B.J." Davis, Jr.[edit]
Pensacola area native Bradley "B.J." Davis, Jr., born November 25, 1979, is currently employed with the American Cancer Society where he has served for over a year as Community Representative. Davis attended Gulf Breeze High School where he served as editor of the high school paper, Blue and Gold as well as received the honors of Hall of Fame and was involved in forensics speech and debate, mock trail, French Club and Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Upon his high school graduation in 1998, Davis attended the University of West Florida where he studied English and Organizational Communications. He was Director of Public Relations on the University’s Student Government Association as well as served on the Student Relations Committee. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and competed on the forensics speech and debate team.
In the summer of 2001, Davis began a directed study at University of West Florida’s Writing Lab and Grammar Hotline which turned into part-time position at the lab the next fall semester. He was currently working as a server at Sidelines Sports Bar and Restaurant.
In the summer of 2002, Davis accepted the position of Account Executive with Burchell Publishing & Printing. After a company buyout by Malcolm Ballinger several months later, Davis moved to the position of Operations Manager of Ballinger Publishing where he coordinated the day-to-day functions of the company which published Pensacola Magazine, NWFL Business Climate, Downtown Crowd, Janet Holley Tax Collector and The Healthy Alternative.
In April 2004, Davis left Ballinger Publishing to pursue higher education in English at UWF. On September 16, 2004, Hurricane Ivan devastated Davis’ home and current place of employment, forcing Davis to temporarily relocate from Pensacola Beach where he had resided for the previous three years. He was forced to cease his current studies at UWF and began working as product manager for MicroMasters, a local high-end micro-brewed beer distribution company.
In the summer of 2005, just two months after Hurricane Dennis ravaged Davis’ home on Pensacola Beach, he took a position as editor for Gulf Breeze News, a community newspaper that replaced the local publication The Sentinel. He became active in several organizations including Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce Gulf Breeze Emerging Leaders, Pensacola Beach Optimist Club, Board of Directors for both the Arts Council of Northwest Florida and Belmont Arts and Cultural Canter in addition to American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. He was formally trained to be an assistant to the Public Information Officer at the Emergency Operations Center of Santa Rosa County. He was also involved in other disaster-related organizations including the Hurricane Presponse Task Force and Interfaith Disaster Resources where he spearheaded an initiative to register area seniors so they would be adequately cared for in the event of a disaster. He was featured in the “Last Word” portion of the Independent News in October of 2005, received Pensacola Beach Optimist “Rookie of the Year’ in 2005 and was nominated for Gulf Breeze Emerging Leader of the Year.
After nearly two years at the helm of Gulf Breeze News, Davis left to once again pursue higher education and received a job with the American Cancer Society. He also currently freelances for the Independent News’ writing music articles. He has been published for over 13 years.
Davis is the son of Bradley N. Davis, Sr. and Carol O’Brien, and stepson of Mary Emmanuel and Joseph Michael Quina.
