Marcy Friedman is the daughter of Pensacola businessman Norman Willenzik, who co-owned the Pensacola Restaurant Supply Company, or "Penko", located in the Lewis Bear and Willko Buildings on Palafox Place at Main. The company was founded by Friedman's uncle, Oscar, and grandfather, William. Company employees also included Friedman's mother, Carla, and aunt, Ethel. Marcy worked at Penko for a number of years as purchasing manager.

Marcy graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1980, and received a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama.

Currently, Marcy is the treasurer of B'nai Israel Synagogue[1], where her and her family are members.
