1230 WTKX-AM Radio 1230

In the fall of 1989 Holt Communications, then owner of WBOP 1230 AM a local R&B/Urban formatted radio station, flipped formats to a mostly Free Form Alternative Music format known as “Radio 123”.

The loosely based playlist included artists such as The Replacements, The Pixies, Peter Murphy, The Ramones, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Depeche Mode, Soundgarden, Social Distortion, The Clash, The Stone Roses, The Smithereens, Fugazi, Elvis Costello, Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, The Cult, New Order, Faith No More, REM, The Stooges, Driving 'N' Crying, Public Enemy,The Velvet Underground, Dinosaur Jr. They Might Be Giants, Camper Van Beethoven, The Silos, Husker Du and The Cure.

Radio 123 also featured local Pensacola artists such as Wooden Horse, The Headless Marines and Distant Silence.

On-Air Personalities and Alumni include Matt Shane, Gus Brant, Troy Moon, Elvis Jones, Laura Angtast, Oliver Mercado, Alex Chesley, Nick Flynn.

Radio 123 ceased broadcasting in November 1990 and its’ format was transitioned into a syndicated “oldies” music format.
