Joe Gilchrist is the co-owner of the Flora-Bama lounge in Perdido Key, having purchased the bar in April 1978. Pat McClellan joined as partner in 1984.
Gilchrist was born in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in 1965. He taught high school for five years, first in Pensacola and finally in Los Angeles.
He is the younger brother of Gulf Breeze Mayor Lane Gilchrist.
