Jere's Lounge had previously been a hair salon, and owned by cosmetologist Jere Hobbs. It was located in the 6400 block of 9th Avenue. Until the early 1980's, it advertised both topless dancers and a country music band. Following Hobbs death in 1982, the name was changed to Jere's Rock and Roll Showcase, and so changed it's theme. Ownership was assumed by Hobbs sister, Barbara McDuffie, and managed by former news reporter David Jenkins. Jere's hosted live touring rock bands, as well as locals such as Flame and The Heaters, RMS Express, and Bagdad. After approximately twelve years in business, the establishment closed in the spring of 1985.
