Mose(s) Sylvester Penton was Escambia County Sheriff from 1923 to 1932.

Penton was born in Seminole, Alabama; he relocated with his parents to Beulah at the age of one. Before entering law enforcement, Penton worked as a grocer and as chief of the special service department for the Pensacola Shipbuilding Company.

Career

In June 1923 he was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Pensacola. In October of the same year, Florida Governor Cary A. Hardee appointed Penton as Escambia County Sheriff. Penton was elected Sheriff in his own right in 1924, and was re-elected in 1928.

Personal life

Penton married Allie May Burch on September 9, 1917. The couple had two sons, Douglas and Kenneth. They resided at 1216 East Lee Street in the East Hill neighborhood, highlighting his deep ties to the community he served.
