Pensapedia:Image copyright tags

From Pensapedia, the Pensacola encyclopedia

Pensapedia takes copyright law very seriously. Image description pages are tagged with the license and the source of the image. This makes it as easy as possible for readers, Wikipedians, and creators of derivative works to know what they can and can't do with the images in our encyclopedia.

Guidelines[edit]

  • Pensapedia strongly prefers "free" images, wherever that is possible. Where no free image exists, it is sometimes permissible to use a non-free (copyright-protected) image under the "fair use" provision. Fair use, in the United States, is the legal right to use copyright-protected materials under certain conditions.
  • All copyright and licensing tags should be put on a line of their own.
  • Along with a tag, specify the source or copyright holder information. Provide as much detail as possible.
  • If an image is not licensed under a standard license, please specify what the actual license states.
  • If you tag an image as requiring attribution, please specify who needs to be attributed.
  • If multiple categories apply to an image, add all that apply.

Copyrighted non-free / fair use[edit]

  • {{CopyrightedPerm|holder=Name}} – Copyrighted but licensed by the copyright holder ("holder=Name") for use in Pensapedia.
  • {{Fair use in|Article name}} – Generic fair use tag for inclusion of image in a specific article ("Article name"). Please include a detailed fair use rationale.
  • {{logo}} – Includes fair use rationale for uploading corporate logos and similar images.
  • {{promotional}} or {{publicity}} – Includes fair use rationale for images initially published or released for promotional or publicity purposes, including "head shot"-style portrait photos.
  • {{mugshot}} – Includes fair use rationale for uploading booking photos (mug shots) taken by a law enforcement agency or correctional facility.

Free licenses[edit]

  • {{GFDL-self}} – Released under the GNU Free Documentation License. People are required to attribute the work to you, and if they make changes or incorporate your work in their work, they are required to share their changes or work under the same license.
  • {{cc-by-sa}} – Released under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike. This version permits free use, including commercial use; requires that you be attributed as the creator; and requires that any derivative creator or redistributor of your work use the same license. The desired attribution text should be included as a parameter in the template.

Public domain[edit]

  • {{PD-self}} – The creator permanently relinquishes all rights to the work.
  • {{PD-US}} – Image is in the public domain in the United States, most likely because it was first published prior to January 1, 1923.
  • {{PD-USGov}} – Image is a work of the U.S. federal government and therefore in the public domain.
