Warrington is an unincorporated community located southwest of the City of Pensacola, in southern Escambia County.

Separated from NAS Pensacola by Bayou Grande, Warrington has long been associated with the Navy presence in the Pensacola area. A main thoroughfare that traverses Warrington and connects it to NAS Pensacola is Navy Boulevard. Navy facilities such as Corry Station, Naval Hospital Pensacola, and Navy Exchange Pensacola are located in Warrington.

History

This cropped portion of an 1861 map shows the Navy Yard along with the original Warrington and Woolsey settlements.

Named for Lewis Warrington, a Navy officer instrumental in the foundation of the Pensacola Navy Yard, the community of Warrington was established in the 1840s. Originally located south of Bayou Grande, near the Navy Yard, the community was abandoned and reestablished on the other side of Bayou Grande in 1930, as was necessitated by the expansion of the Navy facilities.

Sanborn fire insurance maps from 1892 describe the original settlement as 8½ miles southwest of Pensacola, with a population of 1,200.

Government

Warrington was for a portion of the 20th century incorporated as a town; however, it lost that status in 1975 due to changes in Florida incorporation law. A referendum held the same year to reincorporate failed.[1] As with all other unincorporated areas in Escambia County, Warrington is governed by the five-member Escambia County Board of County Commissioners.

For purposes for the United States Census, Warrington is designated as a census-designated place.

Warrington is located entirely within the 32507 zip code and entirely within Escambia County District 2.
