Walter E. Wicke was mayor of Pensacola from 1943 to 1947.

Born in Pensacola on November 25, 1895, Wicke's family was one of the area's first major plumbing contractors. He served in the Army during World War I, deployed in Britain and France.

Wicke became interested in government during the Depression and joined the City Council in 1937, on which he served for ten years. He was mayor for the last four years.

In 1955 Wicke became the first manager of the newly built Pensacola Municipal Auditorium. He served in this position until his death in 1966. He is buried in St. John's Cemetery.

He was survived by his wife, Mamie Lee, sons Edward and James and a foster daughter, Joanne Wicke Ragdale.
