Ventilated Awnings is a home improvement company specializing in awnings. It was founded in 1942 when Al Choat, his wife Iva, the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor and America had entered World War IItheir two sons Dale and Clyde began building redwood awnings in Gulfport, Mississippi. While Al was building the business, Clyde and Dale enlisted in the military and set out to serve their country.
When World War II ended in 1945, the boys came home. The family business was doing well, but needed to expand to support the growing family. Clyde and his wife Penny moved to Pensacola, FL.; Dale stayed in Gulfport, Ms., to help his dad. Clyde and his two sons, Buddy and Doug, opened the third branch in fort Walton Beach, Fl. In 1985, expanding their business further. Pensacola eventually became the home office; and in 1992 , they acquired the Gulfport branch from their Uncle Dale, who retired.
