The London Gazette is a small but very old newspaper and traditionally it is where the military publish information such as this. It is also where information on promotions, awards for gallantry and commissioning were reported, and this is still true today. The archive they have on line is quite comprehensive and useful for research purposes. I am also trying to get electronic copies of the documents that I have found from this period. I would be more than happy to forward these to any interested parties, assuming I'm successful. | The London Gazette is a small but very old newspaper and traditionally it is where the military publish information such as this. − | + | [[Image:The Siege of Pensacola]] sorry just another addition, this is a picture of a large oil painting owned by my unit. It was commissioned several years ago and depicts 7 (Johnstones) Company defending Pensacola. You may note that they are wearing blue jackets with red facings, this is traditionally what the Royal Artillery have worn, along with the Royal Engineers who also wear blue. Even today some Artillery Regiments wear blue Jumpers when in Barrack dress. | |
