Stage torn out in 1950?

Whaddya make of this:

The stage of the Saenger Theatre, which faces Jefferson street now, is to be torn out. In its place, an office building will be erected. This is just a starter for the future main street of downtown Pensacola.

"Stage Being Torn Out." Boxoffice, January 21, 1950.
