Construction date

I'm finding conflicting sources for the construction date. Most online search results say 1778, but some of the books I've found say 1772. — admin • talk  16:46, 22 March 2009 (CDT)

Same here. Two sources I've seen, including the Campbell source I cited at Talk:Siege of Pensacola, infer that construction began not long after Peter Chester became governor. — dscosson • talk  17:24, 22 March 2009 (CDT)
