Is Davis Hwy named for Jefferson Davis or someone else? dcosson ··· talk 12:57, 20 May 2007 (CDT)

Almost positive it was Jefferson Davis. However, Lee Street was not named from the General, but for William Franklin Lee, a surveyor who married into the Lloyd family (thus the two streets' proximity).--Admin 13:35, 20 May 2007 (CDT)
CORRECTION: According to John Appleyard's pamphlet, "Pensacola: How Its Streets Got Their Names," there was a Davis family that owned a lot of land around the street, so the road colloquially earned the name "the Davis Highway."--Admin 13:37, 20 May 2007 (CDT)
Ah ha... Any other good information in that pamphlet? dcosson ··· talk 14:02, 20 May 2007 (CDT)
