First name[edit]

Thiesen's gravestone ([1]) spells his name CHRISTEN. Should we defer to that spelling? dscosson ··· talk 17:50, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

Yeah, I would go with "Christen." --Admin 18:37, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

I concur with the spelling "Christen". I have a copy of Thiesen's U.S. naturalization document, which gives his name as "Christen U. Thiesen". I am a great-grandson of Thiesen. Thiesen 02:51, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Middle name[edit]

Looking at a low-res image of Thiesen's gravestone ([2]), his middle name is either Ustrup or Usirup. Personally, the third letter looks more like an "I" to me, but according to the Google, "Ustrup" is Danish. I'm going with that. dscosson ··· talk 17:50, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

You can see the top bar of the "T" over the rest of the name. Maybe the engraver made a mistake at first. --Admin 18:37, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

I agree. I learned from my family (I am a great-grandson of Thiesen) that his middle name was "Ustrup". Also, a document by Leora Sutton in the archives of the University of West Florida gives the middle name as "Ustrup". Thiesen 02:51, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Saloon[edit]

Is it reasonable to infer that the saloon where he started working was in the same location when he became proprietor? — admin • talk  15:06, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Never mind. Better to play it safe. — admin • talk  15:51, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Naturalisation date[edit]

Our article gives his naturalisation date as 1902. Do we have a source on that? This certificate [3] indicates 1892. — dscossontalk  10:56, 11 July 2010 (CDT)
