The soccer complex corruption scandal is a name commonly given to a political scandal that in 2002 resulted in the removal of four Escambia County Commissioners from office, the bribery conviction and imprisonment of longtime politician W. D. Childers, and the apparent suicide death of Commissioner Willie Junior. It is so named for the former Pensacola Soccer Complex property on Highway 29, which the commission voted to purchase for $3.9 million in November 2001.
