The early 1970's construction of the nearby and larger Northeast Pensacola YMCA swimming pool located at Langley Avenue and Hilltop Drive signaled a reduction in business and the loss of popularity of Scenic Heights Pool.
In the 1980s it temporarily closed, but reopened for several more years before finally permanently closing in the late 1980s. The building was demolished in the mid-90s, the pool filled in, and as late as 2015 2016 the lot was still empty except for the asphalt parking area and a small chain link fence.
There are no publicly known plans for the development of the property.
