The Pork Chop Gang was a group of state legislators from rural northern Florida who, in the 1950s and 1960s, formed a voting bloc that effectively matched the political influence of the more densely populated South Florida. In addition to appropriating state money for local projects, the group also pushed a racially conservative agenda, opposing integration and accusing various civil rights groups of having links to Communism.
