Olde Sarge's Army-Navy Store, later renamed Olde Sarge's Outdoor South was located on 9th Avenue from 1974 until 2002. There one could purchase a wide array of items such as equipment for camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, also camo and swat clothing, books, canoes, kayaks, and even turtleneck sweaters, Levi's jeans, and western wear such as Dingo boots. Olde Sarge's was owned and operated by Sgt Sidney Davis Timmons, who had served in the US Army in WW2, and even played a role in the support of the US Marines occupation of Iwo Jima. Sgt Timmons died on October 28, 2011, at age 87.
