The first '''Naval flight schoolAeronautic Station''' in was a predecessor to the modern [[Naval Air Station Pensacola ]]. It was established on [[January 20]], [[1914]], when a detachment of nine officers and 23 men were transferred from Annapolis to the abandoned [[Pensacola Navy Yard]] upon the recommendation of Captain [[W. I Chambers]].
The flight school was operational by February.
