'''M. Lane Gilchrist, Sr.''' (b. [[1936]]-[[2009]]) is the current was [[mayor of Gulf Breeze]] for seventeen years, from [[1992]] until his death in [[2009]].
Born on [[November 24]], [[1936]] in Birmingham, Alabama, Gilchrist graduated from Auburn University in 1958 with a bachelor's of science in electrical engineering. He joined the [[U. S. Navy]], eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and had a 35-year career with [[Gulf Power]], as Fuel and Environmental Affairs Manager, before retiring in 1996.
Gilchrist was first elected to the [[Gulf Breeze City Council]] in [[1982]], serving as mayor pro tem for ten years, and was elected mayor in [[1992]].
He is married Married to the former Suzanne Bogan and has , the couple had two children, M. Lane Gilchrist, Jr. and Michael E. Gilchrist. He is Lane was the brother of [[Flora-Bama]] owner [[Joe Gilchrist]]. Following a long battle with leukemia, he passed away on [[June 12]], [[2009]].
