Reelected in 1991 and 1993, he was appointed Mayor by the City Council in 1994 and reappointed in 1995, 1997 and 1999. He served on Senator [[Connie Mack]]’s Senate Defense Advisory Committee, was honorary chairman of the 1997 USO Campaign and serves as ex-officio Member [[Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce]] Board of Directors.

As a U. S. Marine, John flew 200 Combat Air Missions in Vietnam, was awarded 14 Combat Air Medals for service in Vietnam, was Marine Corps Representative 1973-74 Blue Angel Demonstration Pilot, “Top Gun” graduate Navy Fighter Weapons School, Commanding Officer Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA 122, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal upon retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel with 20 years service.

John has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy State University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Butler University. He and his wife Pat have been married for 26 years and are active members of [[St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church]].
