John Ernest Baars was the son of Henry Baars and was active in the vast lumber and shipping interests of the Baars family. In addition to his work with Baars, Dunwody & Company, he also became president of the Dunham & Company ship chandlery.[1]

Early life[edit]

John Ernest was educated at St. Paul's School in Garden City, New York. He attended Harvard University but left before graduating to return to Pensacola to accept a position with his father's company.
