'''John Ely Spoon''' ([[1841]]-[[1938]]) was the last surviving [[Confederate]] veteran in [[Escambia County, Florida]].

Spoon was born in Chambers, Alabama on [[July 27]], [[1841]]. At age 19, he enlisted in Alabama's 17th Regiment, Company I at Camp Davis, and served in the [[Civil War]] battles of Shiloh (where he was struck in the right hand), Corinth and Spanish Fort. He relocated to Escambia County circa 1882.

He passed away at age 97 on [[November 27]], [[1938]].
