G. C. McCain was a streetcar worker and president of the worker's union during the 1908 streetcar operators' strike. The strike broke out after McCain was fired by the Pensacola Electric Company.
There were numerous acts of violence over the course of the strike, and McCain apparently was complicit in at least one attack on a streetcar trestle crossing Bayou Texar, and served jail time:
| On August 6th, McCain, Fillingin and Maloney, the three men convicted of contempt of court in burning the Big Bayou Bridge belonging to the Pensacola Electric Company, were released from the county jail, where they had finished their term of 60 days imprisonment. They are to be tried at the next term of the criminal court, and are under $2,500 bond for their appearance then. | ||
