Emory Smith

Emory Smith was a running back for the Clemson Tigers. Emory, brother of Dallas Cowboys superstar Emmitt Smith, was born May 21, 1974 and played for Escambia High School in Pensacola.

Pro Career:

Emory signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent fullback prospect (5'-11", 251 lbs.) in 1997. In a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders on August 8th, Emory scored a touchdown from a 3-yard pass from Steve Bono in a 37-24 win. Later in training camp, he was placed on waivers. In October 1997, the Dallas Cowboys signed him to the practice squad where he was re-united with his running back brother Emmitt Smith. Emory spent the remainder of the Cowboys’ regular season with the team and waived after the Cowboys season concluded. The Packers then signed him to their post-season practice squad. On January 28, 1998 the Packers once again signed him to a free-agent contract for the coming season. Again, he was waived in training camp. Emory was then drafted by the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe where he wore his brother's jersey number 22 for the 1999 season. The Claymores alternated playing home games at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh and Hampden Park, Glasgow. The team began with a 4-2 record to fall to 4-6-0 for the season. Emory would rush five times for 25 yards and zero TDs, and three receptions for 20 yards.

College Career:

Four-time letterman and two-year starter for the Clemson Tigers playing fullback and wore jersey number 18. Rushed for 1,568 career yards and scored 25 TDs. Played in 47 games, starting 31 and had his best season as a junior in 1995, when he rushed for 712 yards and scored 15 TDs. Named as the Offensive MVP of the 1993 Peach Bowl versus the Kentucky Wildcats, which Clemson won 14-13. Emory had 45 yards rushing on eight attempts with one TD. Clemson finished the season with a record of 9-3-0 and a final ranking at #23 in the AP poll and #22 in the coaches' poll.

High School Career:

Was a first team all-state selection as a linebacker at Escambia High School.

Personal:

Born Emory Gerald Smith, nickname is “Em.” Son of Mary and Emmitt, Jr. Holds degree in marketing from Clemson. Hobbies include fishing, hunting, golf, water skiing and all outdoor sports. Speaks to elementary and middle school students on the importance of education. Has travelled to Japan, where he enjoyed experiencing the difference in cultures, and Canada.
