Now after 4 years in office David Morgan's experience is being called into question. During the years 2001-2008 crime in Escambia County fell with exception of 2006. Many agree that this was due to the influx of out of town workers after Ivan. It is also noted that according to FDLE reports, during the same period several years the State of Florida experienced increases in crime. After Morgan's election, the crime rate immediately began to rise peaking in 2010 when Escambia County was dubbed "The Murder Capital of the State of Florida". Not an easy designation given all the drug killings in South Florida. In 2011 there was a breath of fresh air in his failing record where crime was essentially flat at -1.1%. Unfortunately, 2012 crime appears to be increasing again at record levels. During the Morgan years reported by the FDLE and FBI the state enjoyed a decrease in crime while Escambia County suffered record increases.
