Clara Louise Garnier Barkley was the daughter of Judge John Garnier and wife of businessman George W. Barkley. She was born in France about 1800 and married on June 28, 1822. George built the Barkley House overlooking Pensacola Bay about 1825 where they lived for many years.

She is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery, as are her husband and three children: George, Rosa, and Catherine.
