Quickly entering the ship chandlery business, he owned two launches (the ''Alberta'' and the ''Florida'') used for loading larger ships in the Bay. In [[1908]] he stood for election as [[Pensacola Harbor Master]]but lost. He served as chairman of the [[City of Pensacola]]'s Board of Public Works under Mayor [[Charles H. Bliss]], and as a City Judge.
