Involvement in the slave trade

The August 30, 1823 issue of the ''Pensacola Gazette'' includes an advertisement for an auction to be held "at the Auction Store of Henry Michelett," at which an enslaved woman and child would be sold.<ref>Pensacola Gazette. 30 August 1823.</ref> The July 13, 1825 issue of the ''Gazette'' advertised the auction, to be held on July 20, of an enslaved woman named [[Maria Paty]].<ref>Pensacola Gazette. 13 July 1825.</ref> The September 18, 1830 issue of the ''Gazette'' advertised the auction, to be held on September 22, of an enslaved man.<ref>Pensacola Gazette. 18 September 1830.</ref>
Michelet also personally owned slaves; his 1841 will records four enslaved individuals among the property to be divided between his wife and daughters.<ref name="will" />
