Founded in [[1979]] as the '''Northwest Florida Lupus Foundation''', the group initially met at [[Baptist Hospital]], later merging with a similar Tallahassee group and servicing the southern Alabama area as well. The name was changed in [[2003]] to "better reflect the areas served and the mission of the organization."
The group has eight location-specific support groups that each meet once a month. They also provide referral services, educational programs, counseling, assistance obtaining medications and with physician fees, a lending library, research funding and other resources.
