It is a non-profit organization operated by a team of volunteers.  The Prison Book Project, which meets once a week, has sent thousands of books to prisoners throughout the state of Florida since its inception in 2000.  All profits and proceeds from sales at Open Books go towards maintenance of the Prison Book Project.
