- 1872 – The Pensacola & Louisville Railroad Company was reorganized as the assignee of the bankrupt Alabama & Florida Railroad.
- 1976 – Escambia High School riots: An impromptu election was held at Escambia High School to decide the athletic team's mascot. The name "Rebels" had been deemed "racially irritating" by U.S. District Court Judge Winston E. Arnow and did not receive the necessary supermajority of votes to replace the temporary name "Raiders," resulting in the next day's riot.
