This ‘shotgun’ cottage located at 221 East Zaragoza Street was built by Don Francisco Moreno for his daughter LaPearle, one of the youngest of his 27 chidren by three wives. The ‘shotgun’ term got its name because the home was just one room wide; a shot could be fired through the front door and exit out the back door without hitting anything [any walls?] The house was a gift for LaPearle on the eve of her marriage to Octavius Smith, and contained no kitchen, as the newlyweds took their meals in the main Moreno home which once stood on the same lot.
