Bayfront Parkway is an east-west roadway in downtown Pensacola. Bayfront runs from South Alcaniz Street eastbound, terminating at the mouth of the Pensacola Bay Bridge. West of Alcaniz, Bayfront is known as Main Street. Bayfront Parkway carries Florida State Road 196 for the entirety of its length.

[edit] Hurricane Ivan

Hurricane Ivan destroyed most of Bayfront Parkway when it made landfall near Pensacola in September 2004. There was an effort by then-State Representative Holly Benson to have Bayfront Parkway rebuilt as a two-lane roadway in order to increase public waterfront access, but ultimately Bayfront was rebuilt in its original four-lane configuration, and opened to traffic by the end of 2004.
