Warrington is an unincorporated community located southwest of the City of Pensacola, in southern Escambia County.

History

Named for Lewis Warrington, a Navy officer instrumental in the foundation of the Pensacola Navy Yard, the community of Warrington was established in the 1840s. Originally located south of Bayou Grande, near the Navy Yard, the community was abandoned and reestablished on the other side of Bayou Grande in 1930, as was necessitated by the expansion of the Navy facilities.

Warrington was for a portion of the 20th century incorporated as a town; however, it lost that status in 1975 due to changes in Florida incorporation law. A referendum held the same year to reincorporate failed.[1]
