Stallworth went to college at Auburn from 1985-1988 and was drafted by the Jets in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 1989 draft. At 6'5' and 262 pounds he was well suited for the defensive end position. His size and quickness off the ball was something the Jets were looking for in a defensive end. He came from a dominating defense at Auburn. In Jets training camp, he was assigned to the right side, behind Pro Bowler '''Marty Lyons'''. As a rookie he started nine of 16 games and recorded two sacks. The following season Stallworth started all 16 games with one sack and one fumble recovery.
