Rick Outzen (b. July 10, 1957[1]) is the publisher of the weekly Independent News. In 1999 Outzen founded an earlier paper, The Independent, which merged with Joe Scarborough's competing weekly, the Florida Sun, in 2001.

Outzen writes a weekly column for the Independent News called "Outtakes." He also authors a blog, called Rick's Blog, which published its first post on February 20, 2005.[2]
