The McGuire's Pipe Band is a group of more than a dozen musicians who play bagpipes and drums at several dozen annual functions, including the McGuire's Irish Pub 5K Run and Evenings in Olde Seville Square. The current pipe and drum majors are Wayne Willis and Michael Clark, respectively.
The band was founded in 1988 by the late Jack Dasinger under the sponsorship of McGuire's Irish Pub. Dasinger's band, the Hadji Highlanders, had begun playing at McGuire's after losing their gig at the Hadji Shrine Temple.
Dasinger served as Pipe Major until 2001, when Sam Varney took over the role. Jack remained general manager of the band until his death on July 16, 2003, when his ultralight plane crashed at the Coastal Airport in Beulah. Varney is the band's current general manager.
The Pipe Band has released two recordings of their music, Live From McGuire's and The Pipes of Christmas, which are available in the restaurants' gift shops. The group performs in traditional Scottish dress attire wearing the MacDonald Lord of the Isles tartan. The Band can be booked for special occasions as an ensemble, as a smaller group or just a solo piper. The Band is dedicated to growing musical elements of Celtic musical culture. Experienced pipers and drummers in the band offer lessons to those interested in taking up the great highland pipes or learning Scottish drumming. Please contact the individuals noted above for more details.
