McGuigans Speakeasy was the first new wave / punk rock bar in Pensacola. Founded by David McGuigan, it provided a place for Pensacola's earliest adopters of the new wave of rock music to play gigs. Some of the bands that played there were The Names, The Beach Monkeys, Congo Rebellion and The Stiffs. R.E.M. played there very early in their career. There is a Facebook page for McGuigan's Speakeasy that contains many pictures of the bar, bands and patrons.
