John Holliday Perry, Jr. was president and chairman of Perry Publications, Inc., and owned and operated 28 newspapers throughout Florida as well as the statewide All-Florida News Service and All-Florida Magazine, a Sunday newspaper supplement. After 19 years with Perry Publications, he sold his publishing properties in 1969 to pursue oceanographic research and exploration but made significant contributions and innovations in newspaper production during his publishing years.
Perry was a pioneer in the use of cold type, photosetting and word processing, and in using computers for automated newspaper production in the composing room. His innovations contributed significantly to the advancement and application of this new technology.
His state news service and Sunday supplement service helped stimulate and improve news coverage and news availability for smaller newspapers in many areas of Florida.
