John Ely Spoon (1841-1938) was the last surviving Confederate veteran in Escambia County, Florida.

Spoon was born in Chambers, Alabama on July 27, 1841. At age 19, he enlisted in Alabama's 17th Regiment, Company I at Camp Davis, and served in the Civil War battles of Shiloh (where he was struck in the right hand), Corinth and Spanish Fort. He relocated to Escambia County circa 1882.

He passed away at age 97 on November 27, 1938.
