Erin Kourkounis is an education and general-assignment reporter at the Pensacola News Journal.

Early life & careerEdit

Kourkounis was hired by the News Journal in March 2010 after graduating from Mississippi State University. As an undergrad, Kourkounis served as editor-in-chief of The Reflector,Mississippi State University's independent student newspaper. Kourkounis took over the News Journal's Escambia County education beat following the departure of former education reporter Rebekah Allen.

During her general-assignment work, Kourkounis covered the murder investigations of two young women whose bodies were found behind a power substation on Nine Mile Road, as well as the upwelling of community support following the near-fatal shooting of Escambia County Deputy Jeremy Cassidy.

Personal LifeEdit

Kourkounis a noteworthy co-ed kickball player with the Pensacola Adult Kickball League. In late 2010, her team, The Outsliders, finished the winter season 8-1, clinching the division title.
