The Silver Screen Theatre[1] was Escambia county's final locally owned and operated movie theatre. It was also Escambia county's longest running movie theatre. The theater featured first-run movies at a discounted price. It was once known for its frequent showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In September 2013, the owners announced the closure of the theatre.[1] It's believed to have closed due to the high cost of digital projectors.
Unique Features[edit]
It is unique in the modern era of the multiplex as it offers table seating with movable chairs. The theater was upgraded following Hurricane Ivan to offer digital quality sound and LCD digital S-XGA resolution. Additionally, beyond the usual movie theater fare the Silver Screen offers burgers, fries, chicken tenders, wings, pizza and shrimp. It is also the only movie theater in Escambia County to serve beer and wine coolers.[2]
